PMC family of riders begins trek for cancer research

(NECN: Leslie Gaydos) – The Pan Mass Challenge is the most successful athletic fundraising event in the world!

This weekend thousands of riders and fans will line the streets from Sturbridge Massachusetts all the way to Provincetown.

The goal, raising more than $30 million for cancer research.

NECN reporter Leslie Gaydos joins us from the starting line with more.

She spoke with Gloria St. George, Ann Provost and Team member Bob Keating all before they set out what the ride means to them.

PMC Riders start towards goal!

(NECN: Leslie Gaydos – The 30th annual Pan Mass Challenge is underway!

This weekend more than 5,000 riders will truck all the way from Sturbridge, Massachusetts to the tip of Cape Cod!

The goal is to raise more than $30 million to go towards cancer research.

In 2008, the PMC raised $35 million.

The start was moved up this year to 5 AM to allow people to have more time.

She had a chance to speak with three riders who each have their own reasons for helping this cause..

Rob Alber of Deerfield had cancer when he was growing up and is now 21 years out now. He feels like he has to ride.

Mike Hubbard of Northfield, MA has been riding about 5 years now since his mom passed away from breast cancer.

Phil Snapper of Holliston, MA is now in his 21st year of riding for the PMC and spoke about how difficult it was this year to raise money
