My First Pan-Mass Challenge!

imgp2454As a first time rider in the Pan-Mass Challenge, I had been told by veterans how wonderful this experience would be for me. I don’t think I fully grasped that until I arrived at the starting line in Wellesley yesterday morning at 5:45 AM. Waves of riders were hydrating, eating breakfast, and getting pumped to depart on what was an amazing 84 mile bike ride to Bourne – and one that I will never forget… imgp2464

First off, I want to thank all of the thoughtful and generous people that sponsored both me and Team NECN in the PMC. You are the reason why we have been able to raise money to help find a cure for cancer. To all of the PMC volunteers – your smiling faces and positive energy were amazing – and your efforts did not go unnoticed. And to every single supporter that lined the streets along the route – it was your enthusiastic cheering that helped me through. Team NECN’ers, you RULE! Way to get out there today and rock the second half of the ride…I’m thinking of you guys! imgp2465

Other than a few sore muscles today (ok…maybe more than a few), I’m feeling good! I was greeted at Mass Maritime yesterday by my family – Mom, Dad and sister – who were holding a neon yellow poster. My boyfriend was snapping photos with his camera and these are just a few I’d like to share with you.

I think the most emotional part of the whole day was when the ride was actually complete. I walked into Mass Maritime and decided to sign the huge banner that asked: “Who You Ride For”. I am fortunate to have several family members who have beaten cancer and others who continue to fight the disease. To my sister, Jackie, my godmother, Barbara, my Gramps, Al, and my “Uncle” Steve: you are all amazing and I love you. But this race was also a time to remember people that have lost their battle with cancer. I rode in memory of Robin Trowbridge, a close family friend of mine, who was taken from this world at an all too young age, just two years ago this upcoming week. I miss you Robin!

Yesterday was one of the most inspirational and rewarding days of my life – and I know that it won’t be the last time I hop on the bike to ride in the PMC.
